Baby-wearing Safety

Mama’s Got Moves values safety first above all else in our classes. Sita is Peer Supporter trained by the one and only Rosie Knowles at https://www.carryingmatters.co.uk/

If you do not have your own carrier please get in touch as there are carriers available to borrow. If you need any advice please don’t hesitate to ask.

Please read the below guidelines on how to safely carry your baby in all slings and carriers before attending class.

  • Tight

Your baby should be close to your chest and with the carrier or swing tightened to where it is comfortable for you both. Any slack will cause the baby to slump and could affect their airway passages and also cause back pain for the carrier.

    In View

It is important that you can see your baby at all times and that baby is not constricted face is not constricted by excessive material.

    Close Enough To Kiss

My favorite! Babies should be close enough to kiss whilst in the carrier or sling, have easy access to sweet-smelling baby hair, and be able to drop them kisses throughout the class.

  • Keep Chin Off Chest

Your babi’s head should never slump down onto their own chest as this can restrict airways. They need to have at least a finger width between their chin and chest at all times

  • Supported Back

Babi’s back should be supported at all times in their sling/carrier. If you press on their back, they shouldn’t have extra space to move towards you. Any slumping could restrict airways.

    Inward Facing for Class

Although some babies enjoy outward-facing and there is no problem with wearing your baby outwards for short periods of time if your carrier allows, during classes we recommend inward-facing or on the back. If they are outward facing they could fall asleep with the motion of you dancing and would have no neck support.
